A Literature and Writing Cross-Curricular Bulletin Board
(with read aloud video and activities!)
Standards
2.5.3. Write a friendly letter complete with the date, greeting, body, closing,
and signature.
Objective:
After reading the
book The Jolly Postman and completing
the matching activity on the bulletin board, students will demonstrate their
understanding of the parts of a letter by writing a letter including all of the
appropriate parts to the postman.
Description:
After scanning the QR code provided and watching the The Jolly Postman read aloud video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TtZDwqkU818),
students will learn about the parts of the letter by examining the “Letter
Larry” diagram. Next, students will practice by matching the appropriate part names (date, greeting,
body, closing, signature) onto the example letter on the next board, by moving the words from the word bank to the provided blanks. Finally,
students will use the worksheet provided to write a friendly letter thanking the postman for delivering their letters
and place it in the mailbox for him to collect and read!
