Standard: 1.1.4 Identify local people from the past who have shown honesty, courage, and responsibility.
Objective: Students will be able to write a brief statement connecting their lives to the life of Amelia Earhart.
Activity Description: Students will scan the QR code and listen to the read-aloud performance of "I Am Amelia Earhart" by Brad Meltzer. After reading the directions listed on the board, students will take a writing prompt from the bucket. The prompts hold encouraging phrases like “I am brave because…” and “My goal for this year is to…” Students complete the prompt with a short sentence and attach it to the empty space on the bulletin board.
List of Materials Needed: Blue paper for background, letters for “Up, Up, and Away!” and "Amelia followed her dream. Now it's your turn!", cotton balls for clouds, paper airplane images and yarn to hang, cardboard 3D image of Amelia Earhart, bucket for prompts, push pins for prompts, cardboard and construction paper for plane, bowl and yellow paint, brad pin, paper and red marker for propellor, and pipe cleaners for plane legs
